From the first day I met Mrs. C, I felt comfortable and I will always respect her and keep in touch with her.
During the PowerPath testing she introduced herself to me and told me how the testing works. She asked me for information she needed regarding me and my health issues. I was not embarrassed about opening up to her because she let me know she was there to help me with guidance. I told her about my premature birth and about the bobby pin I got stuck in my left ear when I was little and I did not understand what a person was saying to me. I had forgotten but told Mrs. C. that if you ask me to read you a story and tell about what I had read, I could not tell you because I just read something and did not understand it.
We went over things she wanted me to do during the testing. She showed me overlays, a magnifier, squeezeball and a journal. She had me do lots if things for a couple hours or more.
A couple weeks later, Mrs. C. came to see me again. This time she told me things that would help me read and learn better. She gave me a squeezeball to help me concentrate when I read. I also have earplugs to shut out noise. The best thing I started to do after the testing was keeping a journal. It helped me to remember things and to not be depressed. I write everything down so I donít forget them Ė even little things. She also told me to take time out for myself.
Since I did the PowerPath testing I understand myself and how I learn better. I have more confidence that I can learn things and that I can do well in classes. I also have things that help me with the way I learn. My goal is to become a Medical Biller and to strive for my Associates Degree. That is my dream to get that no matter how long it takes. I will try, try, try and I know I will get it some kind of way.

The PowerPath screening helped me improve my learning skills and told me how I needed to learn. The blue report that we went over had a lot of new tactics for me on how to learn and remember things.
Dustin N., OH
Before the screening I didnít really know why I had such a hard time learning and paying attention. I was in a resource room for a while, Iíve had a 504 tutor, and Iíve had lots of help. But, nothing has helped me the way PowerPath has helped me. It was all about me!
The screening really worked at finding out what was going on with me. The results made me feel so good. At last I knew what I needed to do!
I could begin to tell my teachers how I needed to learn. I understand me now a lot better and my teachers understand me a lot better too.
Dustin N., OH
When I took the screening I was excited because I wanted to find ways to do better in school. The screening was awesome and when you gave me the report it made everything become clearer for me.
Like the color overlay....I could finally see the page and read without getting jumpy or getting a headache. I think I could read forever now!
And the report said I should wear my hat when I need to read! WOW! Iíve been telling my teachers I needed my hat to read forever!
Dustin N., OH
When I read my PowerPath report and found out the strategies I needed - it all began to make sense. Why didnít anyone ever tell me these things before?
Like, I canít sit still for very long. The report said that I should get up and walk around when I needed to and that I should hold something in my hand to jiggle.
These are such easy ideas and medications never worked for me.
Dustin N., OH
I showed my OWE teacher the report. We went over it together. He said I could get up when I needed to and that he would find ways to get me up - like I could be the person to pass out or collect papers. He said I could jiggle whatever I wanted to as long as I didnít bother anyone around me.
It felt so terrific to finally have MY teacher KNOW what I needed! I could have told him what I needed but he wouldnít have listened, but the report told him and he did listen!
Dustin N., OH
Every year there is a Knowledge Bowl at my school. Like it said in the report to do, I wrote the questions and answers on blue cards and then I read them into the tape recorder. I studied the questions and answers by using the cards and listening to the answers on the tape recorder.
I studied hard and I WON THE KNOWLEDGE BOWL. I felt smart! For the first time! AND now everyone thinks Iím smart too!
Dustin N., OH
Thanks for everything! You and PowerPath have given me the life Iíve always wanted!
Dustin N., OH
PowerPath showed me that being different is not bad. I just needed to learn HOW I learn.

In our 6/07 year we had 417 students go through at least the Big 4 at orientation. Of these students, 406 showed up for classes after completing orientation!
This is a dynamic retention rate for our program!
In the past we may have had more students attend orientation, but then so many fell through the cracks and disappeared.
Holly P., OH
Implementing PowerPath has had a huge impact on persistence in our program. Students that would have previously fallen through the cracks or dropped out are returning to our program in record numbers.
In fact, we have found an over 205% increase in contact hours for our PowerPath students compared to our non-PowerPath students! The increase in our student skill levels pre-post testing is also astounding.
Using the PowerPath system is allowing us to help our learners stop the cycle of frustration and failure to succeed.
Susan R., NM
Excellent information. The approach is so practical yet based on solid research. This program has truly made the difference in helping and retaining the students in our program.

Before I was screened with PowerPath, I had vision problems and could only explain what I was seeing as a tunnel of garble words out of focus and running together like a coke bottle effect. For the past year I have gone through six pairs of glasses. My sight was never corrected.
My instructor heard what I was saying and screened me for vision problems and for visual stress syndrome. She showed me a book. There in bold print was a picture of what I have been seeing for the past five years. I took that picture and my screening results to my doctor and said this is what I see every day.
I finally have the proper glasses and can read better than ever. I use color overlays and color paper too. Thank you PowerPath!
William H., OH
I have always had a problem reading stuff. I didnít know that I was seeing words different from other people. I thought I was just stupid and I was embarrassed to let people know that I couldnít read.
Roger B., AL
I think the color overlay helps a lot. It helped take pressure off my eyes.
Rene B., OH
I noticed a dramatic physical change in Ryan when he began to read using various colored overlays. As we tried different colors and he rejected each, he visibly shook and jerked his head back when he saw the text under the blue overlay.
Once he noticed the difference, he would not stop talking about how it makes his eyes feel comfortable and that it is clear and helps reduce light. He said the overlay will help him read better.
When I gave him 2 blue overlays he thanked me and said he couldnít believe I gave them to him for free. Ryan also emphasized that he wonít want to lose them and will use them at home and in class.
Mary D., NJ
Most of the students screened have had some needs that were in the individual reports. Each student was able to choose the interventions that they thought would most benefit them in their learning. All of the students choose to use an overlay. Many were awed by the difference it made!

PowerPath allows me to do two things with my students. First, it provides a foundation for interaction with students about their personal background. This provides a professional rapport and establishes a trust that the student has in me. This can be difficult to do at times and having PowerPath is a good vehicle to make it happen.
Secondly, PowerPath puts the student in control of his education. This responsibility is clear cut. My tutors and I act to facilitate and provide resources for learning as opposed to controlling every aspect of it in their lives.
This has meant higher independence, increased motivation and assertiveness on the part of several students already. PowerPath provides them the hands on the skill to act as their own advocate for their education. They like what they see, especially when hey are the ones that get the credit for their achievements!

I have a Masterís Degree in Special Education and Learning Disabilities. I never felt like I knew anything. This training was like a Masterís Degree Program in real, helpful knowledge. Talk about empowered! Now, I KNOW how to empower my students too! PowerPath is the approach that puts it all together and my students are showing tremendous success.
Terry M., MT
The PowerPath screenings were eye-opening. For example, with one student I discovered that his glasses had two different colored lenses in them, one of which he could not see through. Another student who has been classified as learning disabled for many years has discovered ways to ďlearn aroundĒ some of her previous learning blocks. She is great at listening and learning, but terrible at reading the materials herself. Along with working on building her reading skills, she will now use a tape recorder to record what she needs to learn, such as the Virginia State Driverís Manual for Learners. I believe this makes her feel more in control of her own possibilities. Three out of four students in our Big 4 files really like the colored overlays, and have expressed ďa-haĒ when they saw what the intervention can do for them.
Donna K., VA
I wanted to thank you for developing PowerPath. As you know, many of my students are physically and mentally challenged adults. Most of them have had considerable negative and unpleasant experiences in their lives. PowerPathís positive approach of building on strengths rather than weaknesses has given students hope and encouragement. The students are able to take responsibility for their learning incorporating various accommodations to further help them. I have heard students explain to others how their brain pathways are blocked. Thus they had to create new pathways.
The reports are professional, concise and presented in a positive way. They have been really helpful to present to caseworkers, etc. PowerPath provided me with considerable insight in assessing students and working together with students developing a personal learning plan. The suggestions giving strategies and accommodations have been really helpful.

When making the referral (to be screened with PowerPath), the participant did not know what to expect, neither did I, knowing that many of her issues are not only challenges, but embarrassing as well. I found that Linda not only made her very comfortable and presented the information in a way she could easily accept, but that she was actually looking forward to future visits with Linda. There were some barriers that were identified through the PowerPath assessment. Linda (and PowerPath) was instrumental in providing strategies, accommodations, support and aides for her.
Linda also made sure to keep me well informed through the referral process ensuring that whatever the participant needed would be provided to her. Talking with the client, she is not only grateful, but thankful to understand her limitations and how to work with them. This assessment has been instrumental her as she makes decisions about her future endeavors.
So in closing, I would like to express my gratitude for Linda and the PowerPath screening battery for giving my client the opportunity to receive a service that is not available to the public and is delivered with the utmost respect.

I appreciate the quality tool that PowerPath is and look forward to (the new software) as well as the Spanish protocols. Our whole program has progressed in the glow from PowerPath. The information gleaned is outstanding, the focus it gives the tutor and learner is phenomenal and the partnering has been embraced by everyone here in a fervent manner.
NWOLC is forever changed and we thank you.
